At start a family of four people is hanged to death by a mysterious figure. A Crime writer Ellison Oswalt comes to stay in a same house along with his family- wife and two children. His elder son Trevor suffers from nightmares. This house earlier belongs to Stevenson family murdered during the start of the film. The writer is aWare of the truth of the house and is trying to find the 5th member of the Stevenson family, Stephanie 10 year old girl.

In the house he finds film reels with recordings of the earlier family killing scenes in different cities all across the country. One child from each of these families go missing after the event. Ellison also experiences many threatening experiences and can see the disappeared children. He moves back to his old house but could not get rid of horrible happenings.
True-crime writer Ellison Oswald is in a slump; he hasn't had a best seller in more than 10 years and is becoming increasingly desperate for a hit. So, when he discovers the existence of a snuff film showing the deaths of a family, he vows to solve the mystery. He moves his own family into the victims' home and gets to work. However, when old film footage and other clues hint at the presence of a supernatural force, Ellison learns that living in the house may be fatal.
