There was daddy ray, there was mother Liz, there were their children, Richard and Jason, there was the strange uncle Lawrence. And everything here is topsy-turvy, everything goes wrong - because the parents are so good that they are about to lose custody of at least the youngest of the brothers, Jason. Although the elder himself wants to quickly fly away from the house of drunks and eccentrics. Instead of one linear story-two separated by years of everyday anecdotes and chronicle of the present twilight existence of ray, not looking up from plastic bottles with self-made swill.
On the outskirts of Birmingham and the margins of society the Billingham family perform extreme rituals and break social taboos as they muddle through a life decided by factors beyond their control. At times shocking and laced with an unsettling humor, three episodes unfold as a powerful evocation of the experience of growing up in a Black Country council flat.
