One of the few incredible movies involving Tom Cruise, "The Last Samurai" earned high ratings immediately after its release in 2003 year. No wonder Cruz took two years to prepare for this film. Buy Samurai sword skills, tie a couple phrases in Japanese, and learn the culture and customs of Japan itself to get into the spirit and look in the frame. And it happened at all!
The plot of film "The Last Samurai" tells the story of the events that occurred in Japan in 70-ies of the 19th century, when the Emperor of Japan decided to change the policy of the Board. This led to a War in which he was supposed to be unmoved. To resolve conflicts, he hired a distinguished American military officer that he taught his soldiers battle tactics. Algren North American adaptation is not yet imagined how unusual culture of Japan, and that he would have to learn.
Nathan Algren is an American hired to instruct the Japanese army in the ways of modern warfare, which finds him learning to respect the samurai and the honorable principles that rule them. Pressed to destroy the samurai's way of life in the name of modernization and open trade, Algren decides to become an ultimate warrior himself and to fight for their right to exist.
